Eccentric training provides practitioners with a valuable method of improving strength, power and overall robustness in athletes. Furthermore, eccentric training is an effective way of increasing flexibility and strain capabilities within the musculotendinous unit.
Therefore, the aims of this short course is to:
- Provide practitioners with a greater understanding on the acute and chronic adaptations associated with eccentric training, and how these adaptations offer favourable performance benefits
- Provide guidance on the application of eccentric training in practice with the use of weight releasers
- Provide guidance on the application of eccentric training in practice with the use of flywheel training.
- Explore the use of eccentric training specific to Achilles tendinopathy and patellofemoral pain rehabilitation
- Provide practical guidance on the use of eccentric training within flexibility focused training interventions aimed at improving plantar flexor (dorsi flexion) and hamstring flexibility.
Upon completion of the course, practitioners will have a deeper understanding of how to apply eccentric training within practice, both from a performance and overall robustness / rehab perspective.
