Mobility and Flexibility

Jon Bell

This mobility and flexibility mini-course will provide an overview of different mobility techniques and how best to use them in a sporting environment. It will also discuss simple methods used to screen mobility and mark athlete progression. It will also offer an introduction to the tissue mechanics behind soft tissue adaptation, including the stress/strain curve and the length/tension relationship.

This course will cover:

  • How to incorporate mobility screening into a wider athletic testing battery
  • How tissue adaptation works, including the physiological effects of active and passive mobility.
  • How to structure mobility as part of a warm-up protocol.
  • Understanding of the positives and negatives of different mobility techniques
  • Case studies ranging from sports to clinical environments

Upon completion of the course, you will have a strong understanding of the different mobility methods available and their underlying physiological effects, allowing you to make informed decisions with athletes and clients. Additionally, you will be provided with the knowledge to assemble mobility screenings and structure mobility-based warm-ups without comprising force and power output.
