This mini course looks at bone injuries in sport. This course will give an overview of the structure and function of the skeleton, common fractures in sports, the healing process and considerations for rehabilitation.

The course includes the following

  • Anatomy of the skeleton – Bone physiology, classification of bones and the cycle of remodelling
  • Classification of fractures, Signs and symptoms of fractures and mechanisms of injury
  • Complications that may occur, medical emergencies and the healing process of bones
  • Considerations for rehabilitation and risk factors for injury

Once you have completed this course you will have an understanding of the how the skeletal system works and how systemic and local factors influence bone structure and integrity, the phases of normal remodeling, healing phases and things to consider during the acute and late stages of rehabilitation. This course will also highlight some of the factors that influence the skeletal system and increase injury the risk of injury.
