This mini course considers nutrition through the lens of nutrition behaviours. Behaviour change frameworks have been used in other domains of health and physical activity, and this course aims to provide some insight into the developing area of research and practice using these frameworks to improve or influence nutrition behaviours in athletes. The course will cover the following:
- Defining and discussing what are nutrition behaviours
- Why are nutrition behaviours important for athletes
- Nutrition literacy compared to nutrition behaviours
- Overview of behaviour change paradigms and their use in sports nutrition
- Examples of nutrition behaviours in practice including some misinterpretations
- How to consider influencing nutrition behaviours in athletes
By the end of the course, you will have insight into the role of behaviour change science and how this can influence nutrition behaviours of athletes. This course serves as a vital introduction to understand the context of developing positive nutrition behaviours towards improving performance outcomes.
